How to decide whether you should install into the cloud or download it depends on your needs. Basically to install to the cloud and download it work the same, but there are a few functions that are only available in either one of it. If you want Prestashop to host the website for you, install it to your cloud. Otherwise, you have to find your own host if you download it. On the other hand, download Prestashop if you want to get access to the source code and also the database.
Similar to other CMSs (Content management systems), the front end of a Prestashop-processed website includes the logo, welcoming, product categories or advertisement etc… on the cover page. You can manage to add a sign-in function for your customers that favours the purchase or visit history management. Also, the front ends of the websites are mobile and tablet friendly. Customers can make a purchase anywhere and anytime.
For the backend, there are many tools on the toolbar. The followings are some examples:
- Dashboard statistics. You can have a quick review of the purchase and transaction details, such as the identity of the customer, the kinds and amount of the products purchased and also the shopping direction.
- Order and invoice handlers. On the backend, you can manage the order and invoice such that you can have a better inventory control.
- Customers database. Prestashop stores the information of the customers. For instance, you can review what kinds of product that a certain customer has searched for or purchased or the shipping address.
- Localization. We all want to make our business globalised in order to boost the sales and favour the expansion of the business. Here you can change the currency for customers from all over the world that make the transaction clearer and simpler.
Same to the front end, the backend is also mobile and tablet accessible. You can manage your website with high locational and time flexibility.
To add with, you can add new features to your prestashop website by installing prestashop modules, which are similar to the wordpress plugins. The prestashop modules add more functions to your website. For example, a template or a shopping cart manager. Some of the prestashop modules are free. After you have install or buy the modules that you would like to have, add the new module on the backend page. Choose the zip file, upload it and then it’s done! The more functions you have for your website, the more convenient it is to your customers.
